Dear Friends,
In December 6, 2007 Faith Speech, Mitt Romney Pledged to
Serve No One Religion (AP College Station, Texas)
Most uninformed American voters could never fully understand the
full impact of Mitt Romney's statement during this speech, where he
strongly proclaimed:
"I believe in my Mormon faith and I endeavor to live by it.
My faith is the faith of my fathers. I will be true to them and
to my beliefs."
The faith of Mitt Romney's fathers is not "just" being Mormon. It is
embracing in full favor and vigor and practice, the doctrine of polygamy.
Mitt Romney's great-grand fathers were polygamists, even
having fled the USA to Mexico so they could practice polygamy without
fear of arrest. Even though his ancestor's behaviors have no
bearing on the person himself, Mitt Romney said very strongly that
he will live by the "faith of his fathers" and will be true to those beliefs.
Even though the 1890 Manifesto was designed to stop the
practice of polygamy, Mitt Romney's "fathers" continued to practice
polygamy in spite of the prohibition. Does being true to the "faith of
his fathers", then, include supporting polygamy and polygamists?

PLEASE PRAY...
For Maria, a
polygamist wife and
mother who is
struggling with the decision to leave
her situation or not. These struggles
include paralyzing fear, doubt and
guilt. Pray God will reach out and
touch her heart and reveal Jesus to
her in a very special way.
PRAY FOR: Madison - she is being
abused by her husband. He has
already abused several previous
wives who had to run for safety.
Pray she will reach out to us for the
help she so desperately needs.
PLEASE PRAY that our ministry
would become fully supported on a
monthly basis. The economy is
tough, and it shows on our month
ending balance sheet too.

Compassionate Boldness Conference
Oct. 14-15, 2011 - Sponsored by
Mormonism Research Ministry,
hosted by - Calvary Chapel SLC.
We are privileged to be invited to host
a break-out session in this year's
Conference discussing the topic:
Warren Jeffs and Joseph Smith-
When it comes to the practice of
polygamy, there are many shocking
similarities between Warren Jeffs,
prophet of the Fundamentalist Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints,
and Joseph Smith founder of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints. And even though the Mormon
Church wants to distance itself from
their polygamist counterparts, they
actually have more in common with
them than they do with evangelicals.

Selective Amnesia:
25 Points of What We Must Forget in Order
To Justify Legal Inaction or Decriminalization of polygamy.
The
point for this month is
Point No 2: In order to view polygamy as a free choice for adult
women, we must forget that women believe their husbands have control of their eternal destinies."The Mormon missionaries told them in Europe that the Gospel of
Christ had been restored; that miracles of all kinds,... daily revelations
of the Almighty, and scores of other blessings would be
given to the faithful followers of Joseph Smith, the great Seer and
Prophet; that here in Utah was the "home of the pure;" a paradise
of innocence and goodness; ... that this was the new "Zion."
But ... they saw a different picture. They saw that Brigham Young
was just as Joseph Smith had been, the great shark and that the
faithful were the carp. They did not hear any more of the Bible,
... in "Zion" the Gospel was: Pay your tithing, obey the priesthood;
...ask never any question, but do as you are told; take
more wives, and if you have only a little one-roomed log cabin,
never mind, take wives and build up the Kingdom, so that Brigham
Young might soon be king of an independent State of the
Union; pay your tithing... ask never for an account, but be happy
in your poverty, while the High Priesthood are living upon the fat
of the land. Be spied upon every day .. by the ''teachers," ..., and
be a spy yourself on your neighbor; see whether he is strong in
the faith, and if he is not, kill him — "cut his throat to save his
soul; that is the way to love your neighbor."* Hate your enemies— "Pray for them," as Kimball said publicly; "yes, that God may
damn and destroy them" — and hate all that are not of your clan.
Hate all that is American, and swear terrible oaths, in the Endowment
House, that you will avenge the blood of the Prophet on
this nation. To make it short: "You may do anything, you may be
the most brutal wretch, you may marry twenty wives and neglect
one after the other, you may rob and even kill your fellow-citizens
(non-Mormons) — ... so long as you do this you are a faithful and
worthy brother, and sure of your kingdom and eternal glory in
the other world." Such were the public teachings in the earlier
times of the Utah theocracy. Since 1870 the talk and practice
have become milder, but the principles are still the same.
How could this tale, told to me a hundred times over, fail to
convince me that this whole "religion" was a speculation to enrich
a few, give them gold, power and all the brute pleasure hidden in
the Greek word "polygamy?"

“Spiritual abuse is a serious form of abuse which occurs
when a person in religious authority or a person with
a unique spiritual practice misleads and maltreats another
person in the name of God or church or in the mystery
of any spiritual concept. Spiritual abuse often refers to
an abuser using spiritual or religious rank in taking advantage
of the victim’s spirituality (mentality and passion on
spiritual matters) by putting the victim in a state of
unquestioning obedience to an abusive authority.”

Polygamist sect leader’s daughter sentenced to 3 years in
prison after plea deal - The Republic, September 8, 2011
HOUSTON (AP) —Jacqueline LeBaron, the daughter of Utah polygamist
Ervil LeBaron, was originally indicted in 1992, she was a fugitive
for almost 20 years and was arrested last year in Honduras.
She had faced 14 counts, including murder, and could have faced
life in prison but after a plea deal, was sentenced to three years in
prison after pleading guilty to a charge relating to the shotgun killings
in Texas of an 8-year-old girl and three sect members who had
left the church. Before entering her plea in June, she expressed
remorse for her deeds. She and her family were following the early
Mormon doctrine of blood atonement, in which defectors were
killed. Ervil LeBaron had created the Church of the First Born of the
Lamb of God in the 1970s. He taught that anyone who left the
church would be called the "Sons of Perdition" and should be killed.
Jacqueline LeBaron is the last defendant to be convicted in this
case. She was also ordered by the judge to pay $134,000 in restitution
to the victims.(http://www.therepublic.com) |
~ Joseph Smith’s Wives ~
In this column of the Newsletter, we will give a brief
biography of each of Joseph Smith’s 34 wives —
One wife at a time!
10th Polygamist Wife:
Marinda Nancy Johnson Hyde
Fifteen-year-old Marinda Johnson and
her family were baptized into the Mormon
church in the winter of 1830. That
fall Marinda wrote, “Joseph came with
his family to live at my father’s house. He was at
that time translating the Bible...” In 1833, Marinda
met and was courted by Orson Hyde, they got married
a year later. Within months Orson was called
to be an Apostle of the church, and he spent two of
the next 3 1/2 yrs in the East and in England. By
June 1839 Marinda and Orson moved to Nauvoo
and a third child soon arrived. On April 6, 1840,
Orson and John E. Page was called to go on a mission
to Jerusalem. They left for a 3 year mission.
While Orson was gone, Marinda lived in a little log
house with no glass in the windows which were
covered with pieces of greased paper... A little
cornmeal and a few groceries were all the provisions
she had to sustain her and the little ones.”
Noting Marinda’s living conditions, Joseph Smith
received a “revelation”: “Verily thus saith the Lord
unto you my servant Joseph, that inasmuch as you
have called upon me to know my will concerning
my handmaid Nancy Marinda Hyde, Behold it is my
will that she should have a better place prepared
for her than that in which she now lives...and let
my handmaid Nancy Marinda Hyde hearken to the
counsel of my servant Joseph in all things whatsoever
he shall teach unto her...” Marinda was
moved to a better home. In the Spring of 1842 she
married Joseph. In Joseph’s diary is a list of his
marriages. It includes the entry: “Apr 42 Marinda
Johnson to Joseph Smith.”. The following December,
her husband came home but it isn’t known if
he learned about his wife’s marriage to Joseph.
But by the following March, Orson had learned
about plural marriage and married two additional
wives himself. After Joseph’s death in 1844,
Marinda would give birth to 7 more children, Orson
served on missions and married seven more wives.
In 1870 Marinda and Orson divorced. Marinda’s
grandchildren later wrote of her caring and
thoughtful demeanor: “She was so loving and sympathetic
with...all... She was a lovely creature, dignified
and...took a keen interest in life and people”.
