Dear Praying Friends,
Doris

Polygamists use what they call “The Law of Abraham” to manipulate men's minds into accepting polygamy. They use what they call, "The Law of Sarah" to manipulate women's minds into accepting her husband’s polygamy. However, neither law is in the Bible - Abraham and Sarah are both biblical persons, they were both sinners in need of a Savior, but there are no laws of  polygamy established in their names.  Actually the Bible clearly teaches, that by no law will anyone ever be justified by God.

The Law of Abraham is that in order to be righteous in God’s sight, the man must become a polygamist as Abraham was.  They misuse Genesis 15:6 by saying Abraham was declared righteous because he had plural wives.

The Law of Sarah is the idea that Sarah willingly “gave” her husband another wife in obedience to God’s command. In fact, many polygamous marriage ceremonies include the first wife putting the hand of the plural wife into her husband’s hands.

But polygamy has no saving grace. It is only by grace through faith in Jesus Christ that God will allow anyone into His eternal glory. Both Abraham and Sarah received God's grace, because they both believed God.

Our purpose is to bring these and other Biblical truths to Mormon polygamists so that they will disregard anything and everything that takes equal or greater value for salvation than Jesus Christ alone.

We pray all Mormons and polygamists will reject all the laws of man, and embrace God's law of Grace, Love and Mercy.

Thank you for your support of this ministry!

FROM OUR INBOX:

“I just wanted to let you know that have been watching your show for the last 5 or 6 years. I never miss it and wait for it to come on every Wednesday. I first started watching it I was very active in the Mormon church and had been for 60 years. Of course I didn't believe what you were saying at first. But when I started to check out your accusations about the Mormon church, I gradually came to realize that everything I was taught about "the only true church" was not true, and you were, a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. we need is Jesus.  Just want to thank you for your program and exposing the truth.BR”

~~~~~
“Thank you for your continued work in this mission field. Your show is a true blessing to these misguided people.  God ’s Blessings & Love. LL”
~~~~~

We want to thank those who send us greetings of encouragement.  Many times these little thank-you notes come at just the perfect time when it seems all the work we do doesn’t seem to make any difference.  But God assures us that whatever we do for Him is not in vain.  Praise God!!

There are several very good books that have been written by escapees from Mormon polygamy revealing the horror of life in these groups.  For those who have a deeper interest in their stories and the difficulties leaving and adjusting to society outside of the group, we recommend you read their stories.

On our weekly program Polygamy: What Love Is This? we recently interviewed Nicole Mafi, a daughter of the leader of the Kingston polygamy group, Paul Kingston.  She told her story about being raised in the group. She talked about the physical and economic abuses, and sexual assaults that she suffered from the time she was just a young child.  She also suffered deep emotional abuse until she finally left the group.  Her book, The Leader’s Daughter is an informative read on the Kingston polygamy group.

Here is a sample from page 132 of her book:
“After my suicide attempt, the world was different. It seemed that once I had hit the bottom, there really was nowhere to go but up. I could stay at rock bottom or I could go back up. God had spared me for a reason and I was determined to find out what that reason was. I began questioning my reality. Why am I so unhappy? Is my life really worse than death? I knew I was probably going to hell if I killed myself, but I realize that it could be worse than the hell I was living in. For the first time, I began questioning the very religion I was living in. I couldn’t keep blaming everything on the people. I knew the religion was condoning it.”

From page 128, after a particular child abuse court:
“...men started abusing their wives and children less, and women were being matched up in marriages at much younger ages. Girls were now being betrothed to men when they were as young as thirteen or fourteen, but to keep them from being child brides, they would not actually be married until they were sixteen. The community also went from trying to hide from the outside to cover their crimes to blatantly lying to the outside to cover their crimes… No one protected the victims.”

And from page 159:
“One day my dad asked my sister and I to go to his car for a book of some sort. When we went through his gym bag that fit his description of where the book was located, we found three porn magazines. This solidified my father’s depravities in my mind, and I would not trust him to be the mouth of God. At least we now knew why my dad favored the wives he did. All the girls in the magazines were blonde. Apparently my dad had a thing for blonde hair and large breasts. I was disgusted to know that all his wives were desperate for his love of any kind, and here he was looking at porn stars.”
   The Leader’s Daughter is an excellent story of life in the Kingston Polygamy group.  We highly recommend Nicole’s book which is available at amazon.com. You can also watch our interview with her by going to the following link:

POLYGAMY IN THE NEWS

In February of 2017 a British Columbia Supreme Court judge found James Oler not guilty of charges that he crossed the Canadian/USA border in 2004 with a 15-year old girl.  This girl was later married to a man in the FLDS polygamy group.  The court said that prosecution failed to prove the charges, thus the ‘not guilty’ verdict was issued.

Just recently a special prosecutor asked the B.C. Court of Appeal to overturn Oler’s acquittal and in August of 2018, it was overturned.  A new trial will be set, and perhaps better evidence presented.  Hopefully Oler will be held accountable for his part in trafficking the 15 year old girl.

In a separate case, the B.C. Supreme Court found Oler guilty of polygamy for marrying five women.  Unfortunately, as we reported recently, the sentence was little more than a slap on the hands.  Not much justice considering the many lives that his polygamy has touched and perhaps ruined.

LDS Church Refuses to be known as “Mormons”, calls “Mormon” a “nickname”.

“The nickname push is more insidious for some former followers of Jeffs, the president of the polygamous Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He is serving a sentence of life plus 20 years in Texas for crimes related to two girls he married as plural wives and sexually assaulted.  On Facebook, former FLDS member George Jessop warned that his church had leaders who ordered sudden change in practices, too.

“This is a complete manipulation through religion,” Jessop wrote of Nelson, “no different than what went on in our religion.”

MORMON POLYGAMY HISTORY

“It may be proper here to observe that [William] Law … had frequently heard of the spiritual wife doctrine from the Gentiles, but he, not having heard such doctrine taught by Smith, set it down as a slanderous persecution against the church. When, however, this new revelation was made known to him, his eyes were opened, and at once, he indignantly rejected the doctrines as not of God, but of the Devil. Such was his vehemence and indignation, that it became apparent to Joe, that he had presumed too much on Law's faith, and that it would be idle to attempt to stuff him with the doctrine. There was no alternative for Joe, but to destroy Law's influence, and therefore a great bustle was raised and Law cut off from the holy order. This placed Law ... in an awful dilemma...  One Sunday morning, Joe and I had a long talk concerning Law, in which he avowed ... his determination to put Law out of the way, for he had become dangerous to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and that it was the will of God that he should be removed. He, however, wished to proceed in such a manner that he would be able to get Law's wife.

Not only was his design to remove William Law, but also William Marks. The spite he had against the latter, arose from the fact, that he had endeavored to seduce the daughter of Marks, and she had informed her parents who were very wrathy, and Joe dreaded their influence. For this reason, he said that those individuals, if they were not checked, would ruin the church ... 'But,' continued he, 'you must keep this from Emma, for she thinks so much of Law, that she won't submit to it.' … I had listened patiently thus far, to the mad and hellish schemes of this wretch, when I took a bold and decided stand in opposition to him.

I took the part of Law and Marks particularly, for they were the only ones in immediate danger.”

We would like to thank the LHM, (Lutheran Hour Ministries) district conference in Spokane Valley, WA for their gracious invitation to present our ministry at their recent conference. We were able to spend valuable time explaining Mormon polygamy, their doctrines and practices, as well as the outreach A Shield and Refuge is involved in bringing Biblical truths to polygamists. As is always the case, people outside of Mormon Utah are shocked as details of the secret and shameful religious beliefs of polygamists are explained. We gave faces to victims and to their abusers. We were asked many questions, gave out a lot of resource material along with our DVD’s, Lifting the Veil of Polygamy, and A Home for Hagar.
