This passage of the Bible tells us God speaks! In the past, which refers to the Old Testament times, God did speak to the people through “prophets”. In these last days, God still speaks, not by human prophets, but by Jesus Christ, who is the “Word of God”. However, our Mormon culture and the polygamy groups all claim they have their own special prophets through whom God now speaks. They claim progressive revelation and are revered as highly as Jesus Christ. Some see them as even more important than Jesus.
How can anyone improve on what Jesus taught? How can His teachings be set aside for more contemporary ideas? That’s what Mormonism does. We bring Biblical truths to the polygamists who have set aside what Jesus taught and exalt what their ‘prophets’ teach. Thank you for your support of this ministry!
It is a completely different world for us who were born and raised in Mormon Fundamentalism. We were brainwashed from the cradle to believe that those not in the group were our enemies, not to be trusted. Sometimes we hear people say about the victims of polygamy, “Why don’t they just leave, just walk away?” It isn’t that simple! To help understand the dilemma we faced in our attempts to leave, we have been suggesting reading material written by escapees who have successfully entered the world outside of Mormon polygamy groups.
This month our featured book is entitled, Murder At The Mine, by C. E. Mattingly, formerly of the Kingston Polygamy Group.
From the back cover we read:
“This is an unusual story of how one family can be destroyed because of the ways of a group of people … It tells how in times of despair one can be led into a life of destruction. How easy it is to control someone when they have experienced the loss of a loved one. How with this loss their family turns against them and forces the choices they make on life’s journey. It tells of a great cover-up of injustice.”
The author writes his story based on his mother’s journal and documents his brothers, sisters and other relatives have written.
He talks about cult brainwashing on page 32:
“It is hard to visualize the extent of the brainwashing done to the members of the co-op [Kingston Polygamy Group]. This starts the first day after the individual meets the leaders...with every child born into the co-op, the brainwashing starts as soon as they learn to talk and start thinking.”
The author’s father did not like the polygamy group or its leadership, his mother however, had been taken in by their teachings causing a rift between the parents. In May of 1947 his father dies of poisoning, some folks said it was suicide, others that it was an accident. But since he had disagreed with them, a few were suspicious of the leadership’s part in his death and that he was murdered.
On page 66 he explains:
“With everything I have read that the family has written, I believe that C.W. Kingston had told Mom that everything was going to be all right. She did not believe he would be killed! I believe that Kingston talked about the details and that it was supposed to be a light dose [of Black Leaf 40 poison] and look like an accident.”
Instructions had been given earlier to put the poison in a whiskey bottle ...Wilbert had told Dad to drink from the bottle thinking it was whiskey for medicinal purposes.
His mother refused to allow a full investigation into his death, which confused the author. He did not understand that if there was foul play involved, why not try to find the cause and reason. We quote from page 74:
“It appears that both sides of the family believed that Dad was killed because he wanted to leave the co-op. That Mom was left alone and not harmed because she made no effort to leave.”
There’s much more to the story we can’t cover, but this book gives unusual insight into a private family during the early days of the Kingston polygamy group.

“The Mormon missionaries told them in Europe that the Gospel of Christ had been restored; that miracles of all kinds ... and scores of other blessings would be given to the faithful followers of Joseph Smith, the great Seer and Prophet; that here in Utah was the "home of the pure;" a paradise of innocence and goodness; nothing but brotherly love, peace and fidelity; that this was the new "Zion." But when they came here, they saw a different picture. They saw that Brigham Young was just as Joseph Smith had been, the great shark and that the faithful were the carp. They did not hear any more of the Bible, as they had heard in the old country; in "Zion" the Gospel was: Pay your tithing, obey the priesthood in all things; ask never any question, but do - as vou are told; take more wives, and if you have only a little one-roomed log cabin, never mind, take wives and build up the Kingdom, so that Brigham Young might soon be king of an independent State of the Union … be happy in your poverty, while the High Priesthood are living upon the fat of the land. Be spied upon every day in your actions by the ''teachers … and be a spy yourself on your neighbor; see whether he is strong in the faith, and if he is not, kill him — "cut his throat to save his soul; that is the way to love your neighbor." “Hate your enemies” — "Pray for them," as Kimball said publicly; "yes, that God may damn and destroy them" — and hate all that are not of your clan. Hate all that is American, and swear terrible oaths, in the Endowment House, that you will avenge the blood of the Prophet on this nation. To make it short: "You may do anything, you may be the most brutal wretch, you may marry twenty wives and neglect one after the other, you may rob and even kill your fellow-citizens (non-Mormons) — if you pay and obey you are all right; so long as you do this you are a faithful and worthy brother, and sure of your kingdom and eternal glory in the other world." Such were the public teachings in the earlier times of the Utah theocracy. Since 1870 the talk and practice have become milder, but the principles are still the same.
How could this tale, told to me a hundred times over, fail to convince me that this whole "religion" was a speculation to enrich a few, give them gold, power and all the brute pleasure hidden in the Greek word "polygamy?" It has convinced me, sure enough because this tale came from the mouths of good, honest, sincere people, who had "gathered to Zion" full of religious zeal, who were terribly disappointed, and finally, when they showed a change in their
opinions, ostracized, robbed and threatened with violence and even death. Do you suppose ... that all these people lie, or is the lie, perhaps, on the other side? ...I should think so.”

Two members of the Kingston polygamy group & owners of a gambling casino in California are in a dispute with the licensing agency of the State. The administrative judge is asked to consider whether the owners supplied required information, used inappropriate accounting methods and employed a felon in a key position. The commission also wants to know more about the casino’s ownership history.
We question why a polygamy group that claims to be God’s only true kingdom on the planet is involved with this kind of business activity to start with!

More fraud by members of the FLDS polygamy group has been discovered and prosecuted. Two brothers have each been sentenced to a two year prison term for filing false tax returns for members of their polygamy group. The two brothers claimed over $9.7 million in false refunds for hundreds of clients who didn’t know they were not legitimate tax preparers. A alf-brother of one of the defendants said that most of the money the brothers received likely went to the church leaders. All extra monies earned by members are turned in to the leaders of each polygamy group.
“Those lusty men say they want to raise up seed to the LORD. Only females? Those randy old dudes don't bring up anything constructive. They certainly don't set an example of godliness. They don't nurture or instruct their progeny. They make their sons leave. Don't the lost boys have souls?” AK

Just so sad and heart rendering. Love what you teach about not only polygamy but the LDS Church history including Joseph Smith.” CC

We receive requests for updates on Rachel’s battle for custody of her children, and finally have the results of a long and expensive court battle.
Rachel received sole physical custody but they have joint legal custody with specific visitation stipulations. The father has unlimited contact by cell phone with the children. In Rachel’s words she said: “The downside of it all is that I pay him [ex-husband] child support $451 per month. The problem is that I can't prove he's being paid under the table. If I could, that would significantly change in my favor. All in all, his goal was to take whatever money he could from me and do everything he can to get me in trouble. My priorities were having my girls with me.”
We thank all who followed Rachel’s story and those who prayed for her. It’s been a difficult journey for her and her three daughters. Please continue to pray that this family will come to saving faith in Jesus Christ.

Pray for another mom who has fled a polygamist husband, he is trying to get legal custody of their two daughters. One daughter is 15 years old, they’re already looking for a place for her as a plural wife. The ex-husband is a registered sex offender, yet the guardian ad litem is recommending he receive custody of the daughters! Pray for an attorney to take the case, and for safety of these two daughters.
Most who are born and raised in Mormon polygamy groups go to their graves believing that loyalty to their polygamy group has indebted God to them and He will reward them with godhood. They believe that God is a polygamist who begat millions of spirit babies each with the potential of becoming a god in their own right. They need the truth!!
